Per notice issued on December 27, 2024, Chinese embassies and consulates in the United States will continue to implement the visa fee reduction policy. The visa fee for U.S. citizens traveling to China (excluding journalist visas) is $140 per application, and citizens of third countries are also eligible for the fee reduction.

Visa applications do not require an appointment—documents can be submitted upon arrival, and the processing time is four working days.

1. Processing Time and Procedure

The standard processing time for a China visa is about one week:

  • Photo Confirmation – Once your visa is approved, we will send you a photo of the visa page for verification.
  • Express Return Shipping – Your passport with the visa will be mailed immediately to ensure timely delivery.

2.  Service Fees

Our China Visa Service Fee (including return shipping via FedEx 2nd Day): $160.00

Visa Fees (Payable to the Embassy/Consulate):

  • U.S. Passport Holders: $140.00
  • Canadian Passport Holders: $80.00
  • Other Nationalities (Non-U.S./Non-Canadian): $30.00 – $90.00 (varies by country)

Total Cost = Service Fee + Visa Fee

3. Return Mailing Method

We'll ship the passport back to you via FedEx 2 Days.

4. Application Documents

  • Original passport (with at least 6 months of remaining validity and blank visa pages)

  • Copy of the passport photo/information page

  • 2x2 inch color photo (taken within the last 6 months, no retouching/filters, white background, face properly framed with forehead visible—refer to Chinese embassy website for detailed photo requirements). If the photo was successfully uploaded online, a physical copy is not required.

 

  • Find the type of visa you need to apply. Fill out the visa application form  on a computer using UPPERCASE LETTERS or Chinese characterslowercase letters and handwriting are not accepted. For details, please refer to the China Visa Application Form Instructions.
  • Online Form Review:

    • After completing the online visa application form, do not submit it immediately.
    • Provide us with the application form number and passport number for our preliminary review before final submission.

  • Requirements for a First-Time Applicant who was a Chinese citizen:

    • Copy of naturalization certificate (for first-time applicants).

    • Original last Chinese passport (if the last Chinese passport has expired, a written statement is required).

  • Passport Requirements:

    • Original passport (must have at least 6 months of validity and blank visa pages).

  • Previous 10-Year Visa Holders:

    • Copy of the existing 10-year visa (if in an expired passport, the original old passport must be provided).

    • To apply for a new 10-year visa, the old one must be cancelled (submit a written statement of abandonment).

  • U.S.-Born Children of Chinese Descent:

    • For visa applications, click here for detailed instructions. Refer to the embassy website for specific requirements.

  • Supporting Documents:

    • "Where You Stay" Form (proof of U.S. residence).

    • Copy of U.S. address proof (e.g., driver’s license, utility bill, bank statement).

    • If photo upload fails, submit one physical photo (meeting visa requirements).
    • If your name was changed, provide a copy of the legal name change document (e.g., marriage certificate for post-marriage name changes).
    • For third-country applicants in the U.S., submit a copy of proof of legal stay/residence (e.g., Green Card, visa, I-20, I-94, etc.).
  • Additional Required Documents for Specific Visa Types

    Note: Visa applications for medical travel are temporarily not accepted.

    Family Visit Visa (Q2)

    • a. Invitation letter from a Chinese citizen or a foreigner with Chinese permanent residency (must state the family relationship).

    • b. Copy of the inviter’s Chinese ID (front & back) or foreign passport info page + permanent residency permit (front & back).

    Long-Term Family Stay Visa (Q1)

    • a. Invitation letter from a Chinese citizen or a foreigner with Chinese permanent residency.

    • b. Copy of the inviter’s Chinese ID (front & back) or foreign passport info page + permanent residency permit (front & back).

    • c. Original + copy of proof of family relationship (e.g., marriage certificate, birth certificate).

    Long-Term/Short-Term Study Visa (X1, X2)

    • Original + copy of the admission letter from a Chinese educational institution.

    • Basic information about the institution.

    • Flight itinerary (round-trip dates must align with study duration).

    Work Visa (Z)

    • Valid "Foreigner’s Work Permit Notice".

    Business Visa (M)

    • Invitation letter from a Chinese trade/business partner.

    S1 Visa (Long-Term Family Visit to Foreigners in China)

    • a. Invitation letter from a foreigner residing in China.

    • b. Copy of the inviter’s passport info page + residence permit.

    • c. Original + copy of proof of relationship (e.g., marriage/birth certificate).

    • For other private matters, additional supporting documents may be required.

    S2 Visa (Short-Term Family Visit to Foreigners in China)

    • a. Invitation letter from a foreigner residing in China.

    • b. Copy of the inviter’s passport info page + residence permit/visa.

    • c. Copy of proof of relationship (e.g., marriage/birth certificate).

    • For other private matters, additional supporting documents may be required.

5. People Exempt from Visa Requirements

  • Foreign nationals covered under any mutual visa exemption agreement with China.

  • Foreign nationals holding valid Chinese permanent residence permits.

  • Foreign nationals holding valid residence permits of any category.

  • Those eligible for 24-hour transit visa exemption.

  • Holders of a valid APEC Business Travel Card (excluding virtual cards).

    • Note: The U.S. and Canada are transitional members of the APEC Travel Card program. Cards issued by these countries do not serve as visas—a separate Chinese visa is required for travel to China.
